(Catlinite) Pipes
| Pipestone, also
known as "catlinite" is quarried in Pipestone, MN in
quarries considered sacred ground by many Native
Americans.
Pipestone is soft and easy
to carve, and has been used for centuries in creating Native
American Style pipes.
Pipes are used during
religious ceremonies and special occasions, ensuring that vows
or agreements will never be broken. Because the pipe was
frequently used to bind a treaty, it became known as the "peace
pipe".
